This past weekend, The El Paso Film Festival was held at the Plaza Theater & I'd say it was a success. One of the biggest films debuting this year was the premiere of Blood Sweat & Beers: The Making of a Comedy-Rock Classic produced by Robert Holguin, who you know from KFOX 14.

The movie wasn't the only surprise that happened on Friday however; the Sloppy Boys would make an appearance & show their deep appreciation for El Paso.

Who are The Sloppy Boys?

For those who aren't familiar with the California comedy trio (or missed the Buzz Adams Morning Show on Friday), The Sloppy Boys are Mike Hanford, Jeff Dutton, and Tim Kalpakis ( the one sporting an El Paso Chihuahuas jersey), who make up the comedy group The Birthday Boys.

All 3 were flown out to record a comedy album at one of the greatest recording studios in El Paso; Sonic Ranch out in Tornillo. The catch? They had only 5 days to do it.

The movie itself had a few surprises as well; Money Mark of the Beastie Boys helped produce & play keyboards on the record. Percussionist Alfredo Ortiz also stopped by to record on the album. Other guests who appeared on the movie were Paulina Ortiz on accordion & local legend, Jim Ward.

The biggest surprise came after the movie, when the band not only announced they were going to play in El Paso that very night (which they did at The Reagan), but Robert Holguin would receive the El Paso Filmmakers Award for his work on Blood, Sweat & Beers.

And in case you're wondering, The Sloppy Boys record IS available online and it's called...Sonic Ranch.

The folks at Sonic Ranch did an amazing job recording a very great sounding record; a huge thank you to Tim, Jeff & Mike of the Sloppy Boys for coming to El Paso (we hope to see you again soon!). And congratulations to Robert for the award & for making a very successful first rock documentary. Here's to making more in the future!
