If you grew up in a Mexican household, there's a good chance you know exactly what happens when the Doña Maria mole is gone.

You don't throw away the jar! You wash that baby out and congratulations- you've got yourself a new drinking glass.

At least, that's how it's always worked in my house. I've collected enough Doña Maria jars over the years that they've basically become their own glassware set. They're the perfect size, they have that instantly recognizable design and, personally, I think they make a pretty great wine or cocktail glass.

Which is why I was genuinely shocked when I went to buy some mole the other day and discovered that my beloved Doña Maria glass had changed!

Doña Maria Changed the Jar We All Know and Love

There I was, ready to grab the same mole I've bought plenty of times before, when I noticed the jar looked... different.

The familiar glass design I immediately associate with Doña Maria was gone. In its place was a much more traditional-looking glass jar.

And I know I'm not the only person who noticed.

Videos have popped up on social media from other people discovering the change, and the reactions make perfect sense if you've spent years saving these jars.

Because Doña Maria wasn't just giving us mole; it was quietly helping us build our glassware collection one dinner at a time!

Don't Toss That New Doña Maria Mole Jar Just Yet

Once I got over the initial shock, I realized something important: Who says I can't keep using this one?

Sure, it looks more like a regular jar now, but it's still glass. Once that mole is gone, I'll give it a good wash and find something to do with it.

Will drinking wine out of the new jar feel quite as fancy as drinking it from my classic Doña Maria collection? Maybe not. Am I going to throw away a perfectly good glass jar when I could find another use for it? Absolutely not!

The tradition lives on. It's just going to look a little different.

Don't Worry- the Classic Doña Maria Glass Isn't Totally Gone

Here's where things get interesting.

While looking at the different varieties, I noticed something very familiar sitting nearby: the classic Doña Maria glass!

It turns out the recognizable jar we know and love is still being used for a hotter version of the mole. I even took a photo because after discovering the new jar, I needed proof that our beloved drinking glass hadn't completely disappeared.

So, if you're another person who has slowly built a Doña Maria glass collection over the years, there's no need to mourn just yet.

And as for that new jar? Come on. We all know we're still keeping it!
