Have you ever experienced a power outage at a movie theater? Because I have, and let me tell you, it's a whole different experience when you're watching a horror movie!

El Paso's recent storms have been causing all kinds of chaos across the city, and I found myself caught in the middle of it during what was supposed to be a simple night at the movies.

I was watching the new Resident Evil movie at Premiere Cinemas in Bassett Place when, toward the end of the film, the screen suddenly went black.

At first, I thought it was part of the movie.

Then the screen stayed black.

And that's when I realized El Paso's weather had decided to add a little extra horror to my night.

El Paso's Storms Have Been Causing Power Outages Across Town

The last few days in El Paso have been absolutely insane. Between the heavy rain, lightning storms, flooding, and power outages, the Sun City has been dealing with some pretty wild weather.

And while most of us have probably experienced a power outage at home or work, I had never experienced one in the middle of a movie!

To make matters even better, this wasn't an afternoon showing. It was a late-night screening, and by the time the power went out, it was somewhere between 10 and 11 p.m.

The movie had been getting good, too! We were getting close to the end when everything suddenly stopped.

At first, everyone seemed to be waiting for the screen to come back on. But after a few moments, it became pretty clear that this wasn't some dramatic Resident Evil scene.

The theater had lost power.

A Horror Movie Followed by a Walk Through a Dark Mall

Now, if you've ever been to Premiere Cinemas at Bassett Place, you know that getting to the theater means walking through the mall.

Well, imagine having to make that walk AFTER watching a horror movie, at almost 11 at night, with most of the lights out!

The emergency lights were still on, so it wasn't completely pitch-black, but it was definitely creepy.

I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous the whole situation was. I went to the movies expecting Resident Evil to scare me, but El Paso's lightning storms had other plans.

And walking through Bassett Place in the dark after a horror movie? That's an experience I never expected to add to my list of El Paso adventures.

Thankfully, we made it out without any zombies chasing us through the mall.

Premiere Cinemas Made Sure Movie Night Had a Happy Ending

While the power outage definitely made for an interesting night, I have to give a shoutout to Premiere Cinemas at Bassett Place for how they handled everything.

The following day, I went back to the theater, and they were incredibly accommodating. Not only did they replace my movie tickets, but they also upgraded me to IMAX AND replaced the snacks I had purchased the night before!

Considering the outage was completely out of their control, I really appreciated them making sure I could come back and finish the movie.

So, what started as a late-night horror movie turned into an unexpected adventure through a dark El Paso mall, followed by a pretty great customer service experience.

And with the way El Paso's weather has been lately, I think I'll be keeping a closer eye on the forecast before my next movie night!
