Great El Paso Area Rides And Biker Songs To Enjoy Along The Way
Fall is on the way and so are the best riding conditions of the year for the Borderland.
It's never really a "bad" time to ride around here but the riding weather bullseye is Fall. It's not too hot or cold, we're post monsoon season, well past the winds of Spring and the entire southwest is still, relatively speaking, nice and green.
Whether you are "barhopping", taking a quick pleasure cruise over the Franklin Mountains or going on a longer run to Hatch, Old Mesilla, or Ruidoso. (Don't forget the Aspen Rally is this week in Ruidoso from 9/15-9/18.)
Or, maybe you want to go a little bigger and head east to Fort Davis, Alpine or Marfa.
Each of those links is a nice ride by the way, just in case you are looking for ideas.
Where ever you decide to go, a good music selection can really ramp up the joy of the ride. So, here are some of my favorite songs about bikes, riding or traveling. No rhyme, reason or order here; just some good stuff for your playlist.
Enjoy...
Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf: The biker national anthem thanks, mostly, to Easy Rider
Hell Bent For Leather - Judas Priest: A high energy song about high energy riding and competition
Desert Plains - Judas Priest: You can practically feel yourself rolling across the loop on a warm summer night without even leaving your home listening to this one.
Iron Horse/Born To Lose - Motorhead: Bassist and frontman Lemmy sums up the outlaw lifestyle perfectly.
Ride To Live, Live To Ride - Twisted Sister: A tad cliche but, a true rock 'n "rollin" song. (NSFW)
Ride Like The Wind - Saxon: It may have been written by Christopher Cross but Saxon made it rock.
Motorcycle Man - Saxon: They and the mighty Priest have a couple of titles on this list and there are still a couple more. They "get" it.
Bad Motor Scooter - Montrose: Really more of a love song but it involves riding and Ronnie Montrose's guitar, "shifting gears", sounds awesome.
Coast To Coast - Scorpions: An instrumental but a very driving, (or, would that be "riding"?), one ... and, who hasn't dreamt of making that cross-country trek?
Born Free - Kid Rock: Title says it all.
Break - Three Days Grace: Not so much about riding but absolutely about bustin;' loose.
Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi: Ok, ok ... it's not about riding. It evokes some great imagery though so, it made the list.
Ghost Rider - Rush: One of the greatest drummers in rock history, Neil Peart was also one of rocks' most devout motorcyclists. He wrote the book Ghost Rider about his travels as well as this song.
There are, of course, many more but this list will get your soundtrack off to a nice start. Be safe and make the most of "Dubba G's 3 R's" - Ridin', Rockin' and being Rowdy!
