According to a recent study by Symantec, less than half of lost smartphones are returned to their owners in the U.S.

To find out what happens to a smartphone once it's been separated from its owner, the company, in its Smartphone Honey Stick Project, "lost" 50 smartphones that had been filled with simulated corporate and personal data and the "capability to remotely monitor what happened to them once they were found."

The phones were left in high-traffic areas in New York City; Washington D.C.; Los Angeles; San Francisco; and Ottawa, Canada. The company said only half of the people who found the phones made an attempt to return them.

So, what would you do if you found a smartphone? Would you return it?
