When you look at the way Texas legislates some things ... alcohol sales, pot, abortion, 10 commandments in schools, etc ... you might think we're total bible thumpers.

As devoutly religious as Texas may appear to be, that isn't really the case according to a recent study. We're one of the more devout states but we're not even close to being the most hardcore.

Mind you, even the most religious state only shows about 50% of the population considering themselves over the top pious.

Texas leans more religious than the rest but, as far as being the "most" religious, we're not even in the top 10. We're #17 in the survey with 35.7% of Texans feeling extra godly.

Which State Is The Most Religious?

The highest concentration of "bible thumpers" in the USA is in Mississippi where just over 50% of those polled consider themselves super religious. Nevada, (not surprisingly having earned the nickname "Sin City"), is one of the least religious.

How Did They Figure This Out?

We ranked each state by the percentage of its adult residents (ages 18 and older) who say they pray daily, believe in God or a universal spirit with absolute certainty, consider religion to be very important in their lives, and attend religious services at least once or twice a month.

The RLS was conducted in English and Spanish from July 17, 2023, to March 4, 2024, among a nationally representative sample of 36,908 respondents.
