Starting at 6 am Monday, there are 3 major changes happening to the area of Sunland Park Drive and I-10. Find out what you need to know here. The westside of El Paso has been giving people headaches for years now as continued improvements to the roadways have caused closures, congestion and more. Now starting this week, there will be 3 major changes happening to the I-10/Sunland Park Drive area that commuters should be aware of.

  1. The New Sunland Flyover Opens!- Let's go ahead and start with the good news. The Sunland Park Flyover will finally be open, so you can get from Sunland Park to I-10 East easier.
  2. Sunland Park Drive Overpass Closes- this overpass will be closed for at least 5 months. Traffic will be detoured onto the newly constructed turnaround bridge, located parallel to the closed overpass
  3. Sunland Adjacent Overpass Opens- This overpass will be narrower and have less lanes. This will mean more congestion on Sunland Park in this area, with only one lane in one direction, and tow in the other. Commuters will use this overpass for AT LEAST five months.

While all of these construction projects may make the commute on the westside a headache, the hope is that the Go 10 Project will have structures in the area "substantially complete" by December of 2018. We hope. Check out the photo from the Go10 Project for a detailed look at the traffic changes in that area. You can also follow them on Twitter for more updates.
