Yamaha Celebrates Excellence in Music Education

For the sixth year, Yamaha is recognizing 40 outstanding music educators under the age of 40 through its national “40 Under 40” music education advocacy program. The honor spotlights teachers who are doing more than directing a band or leading a choir- they’re building thriving programs and shaping communities through music.

This year’s class includes:

  • Eight elementary school educators
  • Seven middle school teachers
  • Thirteen high school directors
  • Four district-level educators
  • Five university professors
  • Three who serve through private or nonprofit organizations

Hundreds of nominations poured in from students, parents, fellow teachers, administrators, instrument dealers and mentors. The chosen educators stood out for four key qualities: action, courage, creativity and growth. And I think we all can imagine the courage you need to be a music teacher!

Across the country, honorees are doing incredible things. And Texas definitely showed up on the list.

And let’s be honest- directing a band program in Texas? That’s basically a varsity sport. I say this as someone whose sister was in band, so I got to see it firsthand; the commitment, the hours, the competitions, the community pride. It’s serious work!

Music education isn’t just about notes on a page. It’s about discipline. Teamwork. Creativity. Expression. It’s the place where shy kids find confidence and where lifelong friendships are formed under bright stadium lights or on auditorium stages.

The fact that these Texas teachers are being recognized nationally says something big!

So here’s to the educators who stay late tuning instruments, who rewrite lesson plans, who fundraise for uniforms, who pour their heart into every rehearsal. Texas is proud of you!
