Texas High School Wins Ultimate Metallica Contest
One Texas high school has received the highest honor a marching band can get; well, if they're into Metallica, that is.
Metallica has announced the high school winners of their 2024 marching band competition and one Texas school towered above the rest!
Metallica launched the first marching band competition in 2023, challenging schools around the country to put their best twist on songs from the metal legends' discography; which means, these high school marching bands were able to give it their all with, and did they ever!
Taking first place in the large high school category is Sonia Sotomayer High School in San Antonio, Texas! And what song did they wow the metal group with? None other than "Master of Puppets" from the 1986 album of the same name, check it out below!
The band also featured the songs "Enter Sandman", "Sorcerers Apprentice", and "Nothing Else Matters." Sonia Sotomayer High School won $20,000 in prizing.
The medium high school winner is Freehold Township High School in Freehold, New Jersey, and the small high school prize went to South Range High School in Canfield, Ohio. The first-, second- and third-place winners in each category earned a combined $115,000 in music equipment.
Other Texas high school bands that entered the contest include Richland High School from North Richland Hills, TX. who also presented "Master of Puppets" and won $5,000 in prizing.
Seven Lakes High School from Katy, TX. was our other Lone Star representative with their rendition of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and won $10,000 in prizing.
