Study Finds Baby Boomers Are More Sensitive Than Millennials

We talk about generations frequently on the Mosho. Buzz is Gen X, although he confuses us calling him a 'boomer' with 'baby boomer', even though those aren't the same thing. I am between a Gen X and Millennial. I refuse to claim either of those generations. A micro-generation was started for people like me called Xennials, or the Oregon Trail Generation. And both Lisa and Joanna are Millennials.

We don't technically have any Baby Boomers on the show, but we do have a couple of Millennials. The latter generation tends to get raked over the coals as an oversensitive generation that is the reason for all the worlds problems. A recent study seems to buck this trend by calling out Baby Boomers as being more overly sensitive.

The study takes a look at narcissistic trends among the generations. You can actually look at the definition of a narcissist and lock in on one member of the morning show.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition in which a person has an inflated sense of self-importance and lack of empathy for others, which are typically mechanisms used to mask their low self-esteem, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The study did find that people generally become less narcissistic as they get older. However, when they looked at specific trends, they found that the older generation was more sensitive than the younger generation.

In the United States, for example, “baby boomers may be more narcissistic than other generations because they grew up in a time when the government provided privileges like social security,” Chopik [William Chopik, a social-personality psychologist at Michigan State and a co-author of the study] said, noting that the increase in narcissistic traits between boomers and younger generations is still relatively small.

So take this to arm yourselves Millennials. Next time someone older throws some shade your way, toss this right back at 'em.
