When did the band get together, and how?

Hereafter the Wave is the powerful combination of some the most talented musicians in the El Paso, TX area. It began as a mutual musical respect between drummer Jay Arriaga and guitarist Hector Camarena when they saw each other playing in their previous bands. Music was the initial bond between the two, but as time progressed they developed a great friendship as well. The initial musical connection was established when Jay filled in at the drums for Hector’s previous project. Since then they knew they had to work together at some point, but this opportunity did not happen until 2 years later. It was late 2010 and early 2011 when Jay started writing some songs that he wanted Hector to collaborate just for the fun of it. Hector at the time was building another project with also Hereafter the Wave guitarist Dave Oh. A series of meetings and calls ensued and the interest was there, but Hector felt he was lacking the energy to even write a single song. A couple of months passed by and Hector called Jay letting him know he was ready. The two started getting together and discussing who could be the other members of the band. Dave Moran (Bass) who has been playing with Hector for the longest time was a no brainer for the spot. Hector suggested Dave Oh since they had been working together previously, and he felt really comfortable having him share guitar responsibilities. The question was whether Hector would sing or if another person would fill in the spot. Jay suggested the idea of having a dedicated front man for the role, and he could not think of someone better than his current singer at that time Andre Acosta. Andre had all the experience they were looking in a frontman because of his singing, growling and stage presence. Jay decided to call him up, but both Jay and Andre had other band commitments at the time. These commitments soon dropped and they were able to fully dedicate their energy to the project. Immediately after the first practice they knew the project would be a challenge both musically and personally. It did not take more than a month to establish a solid foundation and musical connection given that all band members had already known each other for a long time.

How would you describe your music to someone?

Hereafter the Wave is the sonic assault of the senses by combining intricate rhythm patterns in combination with luscious melodies and groovy guitar riffs. It challenges the listener by engaging them in a sonic landscape, which will take them thorough moments of sheer aggression combined with moments of technical musicianship. These moments are displayed by the hammering leads and rhythm grooves of two eight string guitars, a pummeling bass line, drums that can bend time and vocals which soar, but at the same time soothe with intense melodic lines. It is music created and interpreted with no limitations. It is a stream of consciousness united. A dream captured undivided with the only goal of uniting the recorded experience with the live one. We have arrived. We are Hereafter the Wave.
