How many streets are named after rock bands in El Paso? That’s a question that we’ve asked from time to time and the answer always seems to be “none”.

However, that might have changed thanks to a FitFam post that went up this week that shows a few streets named after some very famous rock bands in El Paso; 2 bands from the 90s & one very famous band from the 60s & 70s.

That’s pretty neat that the next time you go to the far east side in El Paso, you can find streets literally named “Sublime St”, “Nirvana St” & “Credence Ave”. It’s a different spelling, of course, but you definitely think of Creedence Clearwater Revival after seeing the name of THAT street.

Now are these three particular streets named after the bands, or are they used because they’re common words in the dictionary? It’s probably the latter in this case, but come on… you certainly could NOT think of the rock bands with the same names.

Are there any street names in El Paso that are named after musical artists?

Yes & no. There are some streets found around El Paso that might make you think of some famous rock bands or musical artists with the same (or in one case, a very similar) name.

There’s already a Bush Ln., Crazy Horse Dr., Journey Ct., Osborne Dr. (while not spelled the same, I personally can’t not think about the late Ozzy Osbourne when I see it), Saxon St & a Triumph Dr. You could argue that all these names could be references to bands & musicians under the same name.

Some El Paso streets that ARE named after singers include Sammy Davis St, Frank Beard Dr (R.I.P.) & El Paso’s own Vicki Carr Ln. And while not exclusively a musical artist, we do in fact have a street named “Disney Dr” in town (obviously named after Disney itself).

So, what are some street names WE would like to see named after bands? Well, I personally am in favor of having a Metallica St, a Rush St, an Ozzy Lane or maybe a Pantera St. I’d also be in favor of having a street named after Marty Robbins; the man whose most famous song is NAMED after El Paso. We have a park & a recreation center named after Marty, but not a street… there’s still time to change that. I’d also be OK with seeing some streets named after famous El Paso musicians. A “John Moyer St”, “Bobby Fuller Ave” or “Mars Volta Ave” all have a nice ring to them…

We also got a few comments about which rock bands that El Pasoans would like to see:

  • Josie says “I agree there should be a Metallica St!”
  • Clarice stated “I’m shocked they don’t have a street called ‘Creed’ haha”
  • Bekah would love a street to be named “NIN Way or Filter Ave”
  • & Mikko wants a “Rammstein Blvd”

This is all in good fun, of course. There’s no telling if we would get some streets directly named after rock bands in El Paso in the future. But hey if the City of El Paso needs any assistance coming up with ideas, we most certainly can help out with that.
