This El Paso Murder Tale Has A Wild Twist Ending
El Paso & Las Cruces have seen its share of brutal & tragic murders (and sadly cold cases too). However the ending to one case that occurred in 1998 might just have one of the most unexpected twists I've ever heard of any murder cases...PERIOD.
This is the tale of the El Paso woman, Carly Martinez
On January 15, 1998, an 18 year old NMSU student Carly Martinez went a date at a local roller skating rink with a man named Jesse Avalos. The two met with one of Jesse's friends, Jason Desnoyers, later that evening. After Carly's parents discovered that Carly didn't return, they reported her missing.
It wouldn't be until two months later that it was revealed that Carly was found beaten, raped & left dead in the New Mexico desert on March 22. Police discovered Carly's body burned and decayed, 2 months after her murder. Jesse Avalos & Jason Desnoyers were arrested & sentenced to life in prison.
Even years after, people still remember the tragic story & people continue to show their support on Carly's online memorial.
The story was covered by The New Detectives in 2003, so if you want to learn more about the case, you can watch the entire episode.
What happened to Carly Martinez's murderers?
Here's where things get VERY crazy: both men are still serving prison time, however, Jason was able to record music...WHILE in prison.
Years after Jason was thrown in prison, he would meet with ANOTHER inmate, Larry Lyannas to form the band, Discharge By Death. Larry has been serving a life sentence since 1991 & would change their names to "J-Sin" & "Torch". The two of them would include one more guy in D.B.D., Rodney "Dirty" Sanchez.
According to Metal Archives, the band formed in 2000 & released an album in 2010. Which YES...it IS online and people HAVE gone into detail about the band's history online as well.
Now...if you WANT to listen to their music, that's entirely up to you. But the main point of this story is to never forget the life of Carly & what happened to her back in 1998. We hope her family has been doing ok since.
