El Paso’s Award Winning ‘El Pavo Bravo’ Short Debuts This Weekend
Be one of the first to get a sneak peek of the award-winning film El Pavo Bravo as it makes its world premiere this weekend in downtown El Paso.
Join two of El Paso's emerging and most exciting filmmakers, Austin Savage and Roland Esparza, for the world premiere of their award-winning film El Pavo Bravo Saturday night.
El Pavo Bravo Presents: Fly This Turkey to Film Festivals with a fundraiser featuring the original music of local musicians such as Jim Ward (Sparta), Our Friend The Mountain, Emily Davis, and Omar Cuellar.
A year ago, Austin Savage and Roland submitted their screenplay "for fun" to The Black List, an annual survey sponsored by Hornitos of the most-liked motion picture screenplays not yet produced. Much to the local filmmaker's surprise, El Pavo Bravo won among four other scripts, including submissions from New Orleans, Australia, and Los Angeles - taking home $15K each.
Since then, the project has wrapped post-production and has also been fundraising nonstop to match their winnings to help with production costs and also recently received a $2K donation match from the Paso Del Norte Foundation.
This weekend, be one of the first to get a sneak peek of El Pavo Bravo during its world premiere at Mona Bar in downtown El Paso. The fundraiser watch party aims to get this 'bird to fly' at various film festivals across the country, attracting even more Hollywood eyes and funds to get picked up for a full-length feature.
Set in El Paso and Juarez, El Pavo Bravo centers around a luchador who carries his predecessors' legacy and has aspirations of playing in a band. Following the death of his best friend and teammate, the legendary luchador abandons wrestling before the biggest match of his career and takes up music to try and win back his long-lost love.
Help this turkey fly this weekend at the world premiere of El Pavo Bravo, featuring vendors, drink specials, movie merchandise by Mother of All Branding, and two film screenings at 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. with plenty of live music in between.
Musical performances will include Miijas, Ross Fleming, Our Friend the Mountain, Travi and the Travettes, and The Hot Bachs.
