El Paso Musicians Honor Wal Mart Shooting Victims
Several local, musical, organizations have teamed up to honor the victims of the Wal Mart shooting last August.
The El Paso Opera, El Paso Pro-Musica, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Texas at El Paso Department of Music have formed a collective they call Communities for Peace and are working on a special piece to honor the victims of last summer's horrific shooting. Steve Wilson, chair of UTEP's Department of Music, told KVIA that:
"As musicians, we wanted to create a musical memorial." "We wanted something that could be played one year from now, five years from now, 100 years from now." - KVIA
The piece, titled "El Paso Requiem" will be composed by Jorge Martin, a Cuban-American composer and will premiere in September as the El Paso Symphony Orchestra begins its 90th season. The premiere will also feature a chorus from UTEP and soloists from the El Paso Opera. (KVIA)
