Without a doubt, Texas has a special place in the world of metal. So does Judas Priest. We know the band reigns supreme in the metal world, but even their frontman, Rob Halford, has to give credit where credit is due. He's gone on to state that 2 of his favorite metal bands have been from the Lone Star state.

Rob Halford has a huge love & appreciation for Pantera

It goes without saying that Arlington's Pantera was indeed one of the BIGGEST forces of metal during the 90s. And the Judas Priest front man says so too. Rob has said that Pantera "captured the true spirit of heavy metal" & even said that their song, Cowboys From Hell, was the reason why he became enamored by the Texas band.

Rob even goes on to say that he had a close friendship with members of the band. In fact...the 2 even did a (almost entirely forgotten!) collaboration together for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie called "Light Comes Out Of Black". Even though it was credited to Rob Halford, he's even stated that it's truly a Pantera song.

Let's not forget the fact that both bands have shared the stage during live shows too. It's a shame we didn't get more collabs between Pantera & Judas Priest but we do know that Rob still holds a special place in his heart for the late Dimebag Darrell...

Rob Halford also really likes the Dallas band Power Trip

In an interview with Metal Hammer, Rob revealed some of his favorite metal bands. Obviously names like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, Pantera (as we already mentioned) were on this list.

But within the interview, Rob gave a nod to the thrash metal band from Dallas, Power Trip. He quoted saying: "I really like what they’re doing, and even they reference the roots of metal in their work". Having the Metal God himself say that about you, you KNOW you're doing something right.

If you see more Judas Priest stories, you can read about Rob's forgotten Arizona band or the New Mexico live album Judas Priest released.
