El Paso Independent Film Beaten Wins At Cannes Film Festival
It's one thing for you to make a movie & it goes on to be recognized & admired by people. It's entirely different feeling when that same movie is shown at film festivals to be viewed by a MUCH wider audience. I wrote last month about the El Paso indie film "Beaten" being nominated at the 2022 Cannes Independent Film Festival.
For those who haven't seen the movie Beaten, the plot film that follows a hired hitman, played by Frank Powers, who partners with the man he was supposed to kill after he witnesses his fiancée murdered in front of her. Later he learns that the man he was supposed to kill is her brother. It was also shot entirely in the city of El Paso & after 3 years of hard work, it finally was released in 2019.
The movie did really well, scoring over 30 awards, & as you've already read the headline, Beaten won another award; possibly their most prestigious one yet.
The Cannes Film Festival was held May 18-27 & they have posted all the winners for 2022. If you look on the Cannes website almost right at the top of the list, in the Best Action Film category: you'll see...Beaten by Arturo Portillo.
So how did Arturo feel about winning? "When you put all of the hard work from beginning to end and your work is acknowledged, it's such a good feeling knowing it was all for nothing. I've been making movies since I was 7 years old. It has always been a dream of mine to make movies when I got older. I never let anyone tell me otherwise. If you can dream it, you can make it a reality. And in today's time, every person out there who wants to make a movie has all of the technology at their fingertips... literally. No one is stopping you from living your dreams but you, so make them come true. It's such a great feeling to be recognized for all of the hard work my team and I struggled with for 3 years."
I hope more filmmakers from El Paso will get the recognition they deserve like what Arturo has gotten for his film.
