El Paso Has Surprisingly Great Ideas for a Hallmark Movie

I asked El Paso one simple question and accidentally assembled a writers' room for Hallmark!

If El Paso were the setting of one of those cheesy, romantic Hallmark movies, what would absolutely have to happen?

I expected a few obvious answers. Chico's Tacos would make an appearance. The Star on the Mountain would probably provide the backdrop for a romantic moment. Maybe someone would fall in love over a plate of enchiladas.

What I did not expect was how seriously El Paso would take the assignment.

What Makes a Hallmark Movie So Cheesy Anyway?

You probably know a Hallmark movie when you see one.

There's usually a big-city career woman who ends up in a charming small town, a handsome guy she initially doesn't like, a struggling family business that desperately needs saving and at least one misunderstanding that could have been solved with a five-minute conversation.

Somehow, by the end, the business is saved, the big-city job doesn't seem so important anymore and our main character has found the love of her life. Are they predictable? Absolutely. But that's also kind of the point. They're sweet, comforting and just cheesy enough that you can't help but watch. I know I have my favorites!

So, naturally, I wanted to know what would happen if we gave that formula an El Paso twist.

El Paso Had Some VERY Specific Hallmark Movie Ideas

I shared the question with our KLAQ Facebook followers, and I'll admit, I wasn't expecting the response we got.

We're a rock station, after all. I wasn't exactly sure how many secret Hallmark fans were hiding among us. Turns out, there are plenty.

Beyond the expected Chico's Tacos and Star on the Mountain references, people came up with genuinely creative scenarios that could only happen here. Some didn't just give us a scene- they wrote practically the entire movie!

One idea involved a woman returning to El Paso to help save her family's struggling tortilla business, reconnecting with an ex along the way and ultimately realizing that El Paso was where she wanted to make her forever home.

COME ON. Hallmark, the script is practically writing itself!

And that was only one of the ideas. Here are some of my favorite ways El Paso imagined our very own cheesy romantic movie:

El Paso Might Actually Be Perfect for a Hallmark Movie

The more I read through everyone's answers, the more I started thinking this isn't such a ridiculous idea.

We've got beautiful sunsets, family-owned businesses, plenty of local traditions and enough recognizable landmarks to keep a Hallmark location scout busy. Throw in a childhood sweetheart, a family restaurant that needs saving and one dramatic realization while staring at the Star on the Mountain, and we're basically there.

Sure, Hallmark may be known for quaint little towns covered in Christmas lights, but I think the Sun City could give them a pretty good love story too.

And judging by the responses we got, El Paso already has plenty of people ready to write it.
