Creepy clowns hysteria has taken the country by storm, with clown sightings seen all over. Now one has been seen here in El Paso. But is it real?

Creepy clowns have been plaguing the country for months, and the antics have amped up as Halloween gets closer. The alleged prank started back in August in South Carolina, when reports surfaced of a clown trying to lure children into the woods. Since then clowns have been spotted in over two dozens states, from South Carolina to Alabama, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Now a local tattoo artist posted a photo online of a clown right here in Downtown El Paso. Mitch is a tattoo artist at Golden Goose tattoo, located in downtown El Paso and put up a photo of a clown on Sante Fe street behind the convention center. In less than 6 hours, the photo has been shared almost 1,300 times and has over 500 comments.

But is it real?

The answer thankfully is no. Mitch gave a comment to KLAQ on the photo and let us all know it was a hoax,

I wanted to see how many people I could convince. It wasn't a good photoshop job but it fooled enough people.

Mitch also commented that he was shocked at how many people shared the photo and commented on it on such a short amount of time. As amazed as he is at his viral photo, he also wanted to make sure everyone knows that downtown El Paso is perfectly safe. No clowns around here. Would make it hard to tattoo people downtown if there were creepy clowns hanging out.

So for now, looks like downtown El Paso is a clown-free environment. Let's just hope no real clowns show up in El Paso anytime soon.
