Arizona Became the Youngest World Series Winners in MLB History
On Tuesday, October 24th, the Arizona Diamondbacks out of Phoenix, Arizona defeated the Phillies 4-2 in Game 7 to punch their ticket to appear in the World Series. Since their introduction to Major League Baseball in 1998, the D-Backs hold the record on being the youngest MLB team to ever win a World Series.
When did the Arizona Diamondbacks win the World Series?
The Diamondbacks have some varying success in the playoffs. Since 1999, the D-Backs have won 5 West Division Titles & 2 National League Titles; this year in 2023 and the first time they went to the World Series in 2001. Fun fact: after they the Braves to advance to the WS, they were the fastest expansion team to do that.
You don't me to tell you that 2001 was a truly crazy world in America, let alone the world of sports. Taking place shortly after the 9/11 attacks, former president George W Bush threw out the first pitch of the World Series. Even if you weren't a fan of baseball, it was a truly surreal moment to see.
NOW...onto the baseball. The New York Yankees were definitely favored to win the World Series (again) but the Diamondbacks would prove they had a reason to be there. Arizona would win the first two games, New York would answer back by winning the next 3 games in a row. Game 6 however, Arizona would return home & unleash their power to beat the Yankees, 15-2.
It would all come down to Game 7, the Yankees would put up a hell of a fight. But in the end, it would be Arizona's day as they would win with a 3-2 victory. With only being in the league of 4 years, the Diamondbacks became the youngest MLB team to win a World Series. So far, that record hasn't been broken.
Will the Arizona Diamondbacks win their 2nd World Series or will the Texas Rangers win their very first? It's hard to say because both teams have been there before; Arizona won during their first appearance & have yet to lose one, meanwhile Texas has been to the World Series before so they have more experience. We will just have to see happens over the next few days.
