The UTEP men's basketball team isn't the only Miner group that needs the support of its fan base this weekend.

The UTEP basketball managers, known as "The Golding Boys," are participating in a nationwide voting competition on Twitter, the 2022 Manager Games Championships. The tournament will pin universities against each other, with the most popular manager accounts on social media competing for a chance to play in New Orleans for the Elite Eight.

The Golding Boys finished the year in the top 10 of the manager games ranking. They went 8-2 against the opposing team's manager squads, which made them one of the best in C-USA. The team is made up of managers Ernesto Loera, Noah Guerrero and Eddie Fernandez, along with grad assistants Giles Gilliam and Nick Becerra, chief of staff Byren Spriggs and assistant coach—and former NBA star—Earl Boykins.

How the Manager Championship works:

  • The winner will be determined by online voting or, if possible, an in-person game between both schools
  • If it's online, it will be 50% based on the predicted win percentage (based on seeding) and 50% on the Twitter poll results.
  • The Elite 8 teams will be invited to play at the Final Four Fan Fest in New Orleans on April 1.

Fans can vote for The Golding Boys on Twitter until 9:59pm on Wednesday. Entering the final day of voting for the first round, the Miners were down to Saint Joseph's, 54%-46%, in voting.
