The Mars Volta is one of the best, if not THE best, bands to ever make it big out of El Paso. For over 2 decades, both Omar Rodríguez-López & Cedric Bixler-Zavala have been making some truly iconic tunes with The Mars Volta (and with their MANY side projects). With the announcement of a reunion tour and their 2 new songs "Blacklight Shine" & "Graveyard Love" for 2022, I decided to ask online: What is the best song by The Mars Volta chosen by El Paso?

There was indeed a bit of love for the more INTRICATE songs; like Goliath from their 2008 album The Bedlam in Goliath.

Another pick was from the very first release, the 2002 Tremulant EP, "Eunuch Provocateur" (BEFORE they got signed to a record label)

There were 2 songs favored among El Pasoans off of 2005's Frances the Mute. The first being "L'Via L'Viaquez". Fun fact: it was the same song that was featured in the Guitar Hero World Tour video game. Also featured on the game was another El Paso band, At The Drive-In. So far they are the only 2 bands from El Paso featured on a music video game, but there should be more...

The other one was "The Widow", which currently has the most views of any Mars Volta music video, currently over 7 million views.

However when asking what the best Mars Volta song was, not surprisingly, a majority of songs that El Paso LOVES came from the debut album, 2003's De-Loused in the Comatorium:

Songs such as Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of),

Inertiatic ESP,

Eriatarka,

and a song that our own Veronica Gonzales considers her favorite; Televators, all are favored when it comes to picking the best Mars Volta song.

If you ask what MY personal favorite song is: along with Roulette Dares, L'Via L'Viaquez, my favorite song definitely includes the epic Cygnus...

Vismund Cygnus

It's nice to see Cedric & Omar stay active & hopefully we'll see another album from The Mars Volta soon.
