Texas Braces for a Topo Chico-Free Summer
It's going to be a long, hot summer! When Texas summer starts flexing, we all probably reach for the same survival kit: blasting A/C, pool invites, and an ice-cold glass bottle of Topo Chico sweating in your hand.
It’s not just sparkling water here. It’s a fridge staple. A carne asada essential. A “don’t touch that, it’s mine” household rule. But this summer ritual might be hitting pause.
Texas Summer Tradition Faces Topo Chico Slowdown
Coca-Cola, which owns Topo Chico, confirmed that the iconic glass-bottle mineral water is temporarily unavailable in the United States. Which is enough to send us into panic mode! The reason? Production issues tied to the water source in Monterrey, Mexico- the very wells that give Topo Chico its signature mineral kick.
According to a letter sent to distributors and first reported by CNN, the company has been dealing with challenges at the source wells for the past two months. That includes geological quality issues that require upgrades and additional investments before production can ramp back up.
Coca-Cola says it’s making improvements to stabilize and improve the source, but those upgrades require production to pause in the meantime.

Distributors were told the product likely won’t return until the third quarter of the year- meaning Texas could feel this delay deep into summer!
Glass Bottle Topo Chico Is the Product Affected
Before anyone panic-buys the sparkling aisle: this disruption specifically affects the classic glass-bottle Topo Chico Mineral Water.
Other Topo Chico products, including Sabores flavored sparkling water and canned cocktails, are still available. But let’s be honest. For a lot of Texans, it’s the glass bottle or nothing.
What This Means for Texas Heading Into Summer
Texas heat doesn’t wait. And neither does patio season. Whether it’s poolside in El Paso, grilling in the Hill Country, or cooling off after a long West Texas day, Topo Chico has become part of the ritual.

Coca-Cola says the product will be back later this year. Until then, Texas may have to ration, substitute- or guard those remaining glass bottles like precious cargo!
Summer’s coming, and Texas is hoping the sparkle returns in time.
