World Cup Ticket Prices Are Soaring as Global Hype Grows
We’re officially just months away from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and I’ll be honest- I’m genuinely excited. I got even more hyped when I realized some of the matches will be played right here in my home state of Texas.
But there was one thing I kept trying not to think about. The thing every World Cup fan eventually has to face: ticket prices. And according to new data, that concern is very real.
Global World Cup Hype Is Already Surging
Excitement for the World Cup is already building worldwide. In just the past month alone, searches for “World Cup tickets” have surged by 5,000%, showing just how eager fans are to see their teams play live. But as excitement rises, so do the costs.

A new analysis from SeatPick looked at official group stage ticket prices and travel distances to determine which fans are expected to pay the most and travel the furthest during the tournament.
Mexico Fans Face the Highest World Cup Ticket Prices of All
If you’re hoping to follow Mexico during the group stage, brace yourself. Mexico ranks as the most expensive team to watch at the World Cup, driven by El Tri’s massive fanbase and the tournament’s strong North American presence.
Here’s what fans can expect:
- Average ticket price: $5,189
- Cheapest available tickets: $1,047
- Most expensive tickets: a staggering $85,056
Even the lowest-priced tickets are flirting with four figures, making Mexico the priciest team for fans hoping to attend matches in person.
USA Matches Are Among the Most Expensive World Cup Tickets Despite Hosting
You might assume hosting the World Cup would make it easier for American fans. Unfortunately, that’s not how it’s shaping up.

The United States ranks as the third most expensive team to watch during the group stage.
- Average ticket price: $2,718
- Highest ticket prices: $98,872
Between local demand, international interest, and growing excitement around the U.S. Men’s National Team, ticket prices are climbing faster than many fans expected.
USA Fans Also Face a Major Travel Challenge
Ticket prices aren’t the only hurdle for U.S. supporters. Despite being co-hosts, American fans are expected to travel 1,928 miles between group stage matches, ranking 17th overall among all teams for total travel distance.
That mix of long travel distances and high ticket prices makes Group D the most logistically challenging group for U.S. fans attending matches live.
What This Means for World Cup Fans Like Me
Am I still excited? Absolutely. Am I also now doing mental math and rethinking my ticket strategy? Also yes. I think my best option is finding a great place to watch the matches here in El Paso.
The World Cup is going to be unforgettable, especially with games happening right here in Texas. I just didn’t realize that part of the experience would include budgeting, travel planning, and deciding which matches are truly worth the splurge.
