Study Reveals Texas’ Love Of True Crime
I don't know what it is about true crime, but it certainly has a way of captivating an audience! It's no surprise with how many documentaries, docu-series, movies and books are pumped out with tales of true crime.
Now, we have just a little idea as to how much certain states are, for the lack of a better term, obsessed with true crime.
Thanks to PrivacyJournal.net, we have a little insight as to how much true crime each state, and the District of Columbia, is digesting. By analyzing nearly 200 keywords related to various aspects of true crime, privacyjournal.net was able to determine what each state in the country was looking for the most.
These keywords were grouped into seven categories: true crime content, infamous serial killers, famous murder cases, celebrity cases, unsolved mysteries & disappearances, true crime podcasts & documentaries and movies, shows, documentaries.
So where did Texas land on this list? Texas ranked as the 11th most obsessed state with true crime, showing high interest across various categories.
It places 8th for infamous serial killers, 9th for famous murder cases, and 10th for celebrity cases. Overall, the results show a search volume of 3,727.54 per 100,000 people for true crime topics.
The Texas results may not be as much as the most obsessed, that honor actually goes to a district not a state: the District of Columbia came in at number one with 8,846.62 true crime-related searches per 100,000 people.
As for the entire United States, the average number of true crime searches per 100,000 people is 3,428.98. Which is significantly lower than Georgia — the state with the lowest level of interest in true crime — that totaled just 2,155.64 searches per 100,000 people.
Whether it's a celebrity death, a serial killer or an unsolved mystery, this country sure does love its true crime stories; there's a reason we do a daily segment on the Morning Show about it!
