Texas #1 In The USA For These Horrible Fatalities
They're senseless and totally preventable deaths yet, Texas is leading the nation in the number of them.
There's no way to be proud of any kind of record like this but Texas has earned the number 1 spot when it comes to this type of death. It happens all over the state to Texans of all ages.
Sadly it's the easiest thing in the world to prevent. Simple, common sense is all it takes to avoid this tragedy.
The summer heat in Texas is no joke. Believe it or not, we're actually hotter than freakin' Arizona and El Paso has the 3rd fastest rising temp in the USA. High heat can be deadly for people and animals, and it can kill quickly. Especially in a hot vehicle.
According to noheatstroke.org, between 1998 and 2023, 142 people died after being left in a hot vehicle. Florida, (110), and California, (56), make up the top 3 with Arizona in 4th. (43)
These tragedies are SOOO preventable.
Never leave anyone, (especially children and pets), in a vehicle unattended. Don't think cracking windows or parking in the shade will help either. According to the NHTSA, that makes almost no difference in the temp at all.
Be sure you check your entire vehicle, especially the back seat, before locking up and leaving.
Place a personal item like a purse or briefcase in the back seat, as another reminder to look before you lock. Write a note or place a stuffed animal in the passenger's seat to remind you that a child is in the back seat.
Store car keys out of a child's reach and teach children that a vehicle is not a play area. - NHTSA
If you see someone, or an animal, left in a vehicle; call 911 right away!
