3 States Warn Against Alcohol, Will Texas Be Next?
3 states have issued warnings to hundreds of thousands of their residents to lay off the booze this summer.
If you're planning to do any grillin' and chillin' this summer in California, Nevada or Arizona; officials in those states say you better hop on the wagon. The reason is weather related and Texas may also encourage a sober summer.
In short, it's gonna be hot folks.
It's not even officially summer yet and it's already getting hot out. El Paso is about to see it's first week of consistent, 100+ degree temps. Texas summers are no joke and our highs will easily be in the same league as those other states so I foresee a warning not to drink coming from Texas soon too.
Why Shouldn't You Drink Alcohol?
As refreshing as an ice cold beer may sound on a hot day, drinking in high heat can cause serious problems including dehydration and heat illnesses. Some things you may be setting yourself up for include dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, loss of coordination, confusion and heat stroke.

Some of those things can be mistaken for inebriation. You think you or your buddy just got really buzzed when you're actually flirting with heat stroke which can be fatal. Learn more here.
But I LOOOVE Booze
If you plan on knocking back a few at the weekend bbq, keep these tips in mind:
- Drink lots of water before and during your event.
- Eat before you drink and try to have "hydrating" foods like fruits and veggies.
- Drink an 8 - 12 ounce glass of water for each alcoholic drink you have.
- Drink moderately.
Stay inside as much as possible, drink moderately and don't drink and drive. If you need a ride home, the city of El Paso will help you get an Uber.
