While the 2020 UTEP football season is still awaiting word from three Power 5 conferences regarding their regular season schedule, the Sun Bowl renovation project is coming along just fine. Earlier this week, UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter tweeted out a picture of the first portion of the stadium update that was completed.

Since we are six weeks away from the Miners home opener against Texas Tech, it remains to be seen if that game will remain on the schedule or if fans will even be allowed to attend the game should it be played. El Paso Locomotive FC have played their first two home matches at Southwest University Park without fans.

The Sun Bowl Stadium Modernization Project includes a new terrace area on the concourse, loge boxes, a sky lounge, and changes to the press tower. The current estimated cost of the project is $16.25 million. It is exciting to get a glimpse the new blue seatbacks that were recently installed and Miners fans will have an opportunity to enjoy so many terrific new premium seating areas for 2020. Now, we just need to hope that college football will be able to find a way to stay on schedule to start their regular season in the fall.
