If you were at the BTS shows at the Sun Bowl, you already know that history was made!
I think BTS would agree because they looked like they were having the time of their life and hinted that they’d love to come back.

Which is exactly what has some fans nervously joking and thinking: should we tell them about the curse? Because El Paso’s Sun Bowl has a bit of a boy band reputation.

NSYNC and One Direction Both Played El Paso Before Major Changes

Now, before anyone panics- this is not real. Probably.

Back in 2001, NSYNC hit the Sun Bowl at the height of their fame. A year later, they went on hiatus and never fully came back.

Then in 2014, One Direction played the biggest show in the venue’s history. Six months later, Zayn Malik left the group, and the hiatus followed soon after.

As a certified boy band girl, I can confirm, that kind of breakup is devastating.

BTS Brought the Chaos to El Paso

Now enter BTS, who packed the Sun Bowl for two sold-out shows on May 2 and 3. The concerts were massive, but not without issues fans are now tying into the “curse.”

Out-of-town fans were hit with a lodging nightmare after hotels canceled reservations and relisted rooms for hundreds more a night. UTEP officials had to warn fans not to climb the mountains for a free view, with fines and even jail time on the table. Lines were long and delayed the show. And once the show ended some fans sat in traffic for hours just trying to leave.

So no, BTS didn’t break up after El Paso, but maybe that was their version of the curse?

Did BTS Survive the Sun Bowl Curse?

To be fair, BTS is already on a different level. They’ve lasted longer than most boy bands and built solo success without splitting up. Still, El Paso fans have seen this pattern before.

At the end of the day, the “boy band curse” is all in good fun.

But it is a funny little piece of Sun Bowl history that somehow connects NSYNC, One Direction, and now BTS in one very specific way. And if BTS really does come back? El Paso will be ready.
