When it comes to artists from El Paso, Texas, the name Sparta is legendary. Formed & led by Jim Ward in 2002 & with help of fellow bandmate Matt Miller, Sparta quickly became a name to represent El Paso all over the world. Of course Jim would represent to EP music scene with his solo career, Sleepercar (and of course At The Drive-In), but Sparta would be the band that solidified his place in music history.

Over 20 years later, they continue to wave the flag for the local music scene. This year they will raise that flag proudly here at home as they celebrates the 20th anniversary of their album "Wiretap Scars" that first came out August 13, 2002.

The importance of Sparta's Wiretap Scars.

With singles like "Cut Your Ribbon" & "Air", the album was a success right out of the gate; Alternative Press included Cut Your Ribbon on their top 100 singles from the 2000s at #61. Wiretap Scars would also be the first Sparta album to crack the Billboard 200 at #71. And of course I don't think I need to mention the countless fans that still blast their music to this day.

When is Sparta playing in El Paso for 2023?

Sparta will be holding a few tour dates in November in Canada to kick off their 20 Years of Wiretap Scars tour; between November 1 to the 13th. After their Canadian run, they will be hosting a homecoming show for El Paso on November 24th at the Sun City Bar & Event Center, 6816 Commerce Ave. Special guest Emily Davis will also be joining Sparta for this show..

I don't need to tell you that whenever Sparta plays home, it's always a party, no matter WHERE they play.

You can find all the tour dates for Sparta in 2023 & 2024 on their website & if you want to get your tickets for their El Paso show, you can get yours on Event Brite here.
