Early this morning, an El Paso Police Officer was hit by a drunk driver while conducting a field sobriety test. Check out the shocking footage here.

An El Paso police officer has been taken to the hospital after he was struck by a drunk driver earlier this morning while performing a sobriety test.

Officer Andy Rodriguez was responding to a crash at 11200 Montana Avenue in East El Paso around 2:30 a.m. this morning. The officer was conducting a field sobriety test on a male driver involved in the initial collision when a 2009 Nissan Cube drove straight towards the officer. The driver of the vehicle was 23 year-old Sherry Lorraine Rodriguez.

Officer Rodriguez can be seen in the dash cam video pushing the man out of the way before the Cube hits his patrol car, then strikes the officer. The impact from being hit by the car threw the officer into the air before he hit the ground. Thankfully, the officer was taken to the hospital and only suffered minor injuries.

The man from the initial accident that was getting the sobriety test was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated(DWI), as well as Sherry Lorraine Rodriguez. Check out the scary footage above courtesy of KFOX and the El Paso Police Department.
