The city of El Paso finally has a dedicated Public Health Director.

The city of El Paso has, of course, always had a Director Of Public Health but, the resignation of Robert Resendes back in May of 2020 left the post being temporarily overseen by the Office of Emergency Management, headed by El Paso Fire Department Chief Mario D’Agostino.

Angela Mora is now the official Director of Public Health, a job which ... according to the El Paso Herald-Post ... includes:

As the Director of Public Health, Mora will oversee all public health programs including: the 211 Texas Rio Grande Region Area Information Center; Epidemiology; Food Inspection; Health Education & Promotion; HIV Prevention; Immunization Program; Laboratory; Medicaid Waiver Program; Preventive Medicine Clinic; Public Health Emergency Preparedness; Rawlings Pediatric Dental Clinic; Tuberculosis Program; and Women, Infants and Children. - EPHP

Of Mora, University Medical Center of El Paso President and CEO Jacob Cintron said:

“Over the 13 years that I’ve known Angela, she has worked to build strong partnerships and has been a forward-thinking advocate for El Paso’s public health programs. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her on numerous issues, to include COVID-19, and I have no doubt that she will work tirelessly to meet the growing needs of our community” - EPHP

Mora was born in Juarez, has lived in El Paso for around 40 years, and brings 30 years of experience to the position with her. She is the first female to hold this title with the El Paso Department of Public Health and only the second director of Latin descent ever according to the El Paso Herald-Post article.
