I swear, there was a time when there were as many Arby's in El Paso as any other fast food joint. Now, there's less than 10 but we're about to get a new one.

Counting the one on Fort Bliss, we're down to 8 Arby's locations in El Paso, (Las Cruces has 2), but El Chuco just moved one step closer to double digits with the new one on the west side at 1555 N. Resler.

Just in time for roast beef lovin' spring breakers to go "break" it in.

Arby's first started out in 1964 by 2 brothers,  Forrest and Leroy Raffel. Arby's did get its name from the initials RB but, despite a popular urban legend, RB stood for Raffel Brothers, not Roast Beef.

How Did Arby's Start?

In the mid - late 60's, burger joints ruled. The Raffel brothers decided not to go at "Big Burg" head on but chose a different approach. They used most of the same fast food concepts in terms of look, design, speedy service, etc but offered roast beef instead of burgers as a more "upscale" product.

That's another popular urban legend but, (sorry haters), Arby's roast beef is the real deal - made from genuine, real beef, round roast.

Since Arby's inception in 1964, the fast food chain's roast beef has had the same ingredients: beef, water, salt, and sodium phosphates. If you have any doubt about the contents of anything sold at the restaurant, just check the detailed nutrition information list of all food items on its website. - foodrepublic.com

Arby's Menu Isn't Just Roast Beef

The Arby's on Dyer in the northeast recently got a makeover that included it's big 'ole cowboy hat sign. The O.G. Arby's marquee is hard to find these days but there are still a few around. El Paso actually has 2 and Las Cruces has one.
