The Most El Paso Excuses for Being Late to Work
We've all been late to work before.
Sometimes it's because you overslept. Sometimes life just gets in the way. But if you live in El Paso, there are a handful of excuses that almost everyone has either heard or at least considered using once or twice!
So I decided to ask our Facebook followers one simple question:
I had a feeling we'd get some funny responses. I just didn't expect so many people to have the exact same ideas!
El Paso Has Some Pretty Creative Late-to-Work Excuses
Some of the answers were surprisingly practical. Others were so specific that you couldn't help but wonder if they'd been used before!
Of course, there were plenty of responses involving I-10 traffic, because let's be honest, if there's one excuse almost nobody questions around here, it's getting caught behind an accident during rush hour.
Then there were the truly El Paso answers. The ones that made everyone else in the comments say, "Yep...that checks out."
Take a look at some of our favorite responses- and maybe try one out next time!

Some of These Sound a Little Too Believable
One thing that surprised me wasn't just how funny the responses were- it was how many people admitted they'd actually used some of these excuses before.
One commenter even shared that blaming her "monthly visitor" had gotten her out of trouble more than once. I got to remember to try that one!
Then there was Chico's Tacos.
Apparently, quite a few El Pasoans think Chico's makes the perfect excuse for being late. Whether it's because you stopped there on the way to work or because you weren't feeling your best afterward...I'll let you decide. Judging by the number of similar comments, it's an excuse plenty of people have thought about.
My favorite part had to be just reading through all the comments.
Without planning it, hundreds of people landed on many of the same answers. Traffic on I-10, trains, Chico's Tacos, traffic. The kinds of things that instantly make sense if you've spent any time living in the Borderland.
It's funny...and maybe just a little concerning...that so many of these excuses would probably work.
If nothing else, this proved one thing: El Paso has a shared sense of humor, and apparently a shared emergency list of reasons to tell the boss when you're running behind.
