Instead of the usual Miss America routines of singing and dancing, Miss Colorado decided to put on her scrubs and tell us about the kind heart behind the beauty.

During the second night of preliminaries for the Miss America 2016 pageant, Miss Colorado Kelly Johnson did something incredibly different. While the competition sang, danced, acted, played instruments and more, Kelly Johnson walked on the stage wearing her stethoscope and purple scrubs. With her tied back into a ponytail, her usual work hairstyle, she began talking about the passion she has for nursing.

Kelly Johnson graduated as the valedictorian of her nursing class at Grand View University in Iowa and is now a registered nurse. She took the stage and talked about the patient that "reminded her why she became a nurse in the first place." That patient's name is Joe. Joe was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and one of the symptoms he suffered from was night terrors. Listen to her discuss how she made a difference in her patient's life.
