Our Mash up for this Monday comes from one of the most prolific Masher-Upper, DJ Cummerbund. It takes two fairly disparate songs…Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music, White Boy” and Rammstein’s “Du Hast”…to create something new. It’s funky, it’s Teutonic…it works. Somehow, it works.

This gem is called “Play that Funky Music, Rammstein” and there’s one aspect of the Mashup that I’m not sure how I feel about. The vocals that go “Play that funky music white boy” have been replaced with “Play that funky music, Rammstein”. It’s clear that those vocals have been made specifically for this Mash Up. Does…does that still count as a mashup? I mean, there are some artists who mash up songs in a live performance or a Youtube video and I DON’T include those in our Mash up Monday. I’m letting this one slide because it’s so brief but I’m not sure where my cut-off line would be. How much new material can be in a Mash Up and it still be considered a Mash up? Time will tell, I suppose.
