
Texas Tequila Powers Guinness Margarita Record
Even at sea, Texans prove that we don’t do anything halfway- especially when it comes to our margaritas!
Passengers aboard the Regal Princess sailed back to Galveston not just with souvenirs and sunburns, but with a brand-new Guinness World Record under their belts.
While docked in Cozumel on February 17, passengers and crew broke the record for most margaritas sold in an eight-hour period.
Never have I been so jealous of people on a cruise ship.
Galveston Cruise Passengers Smash Guinness Record
In total, they sold 3,410 margaritas in eight hours!
The previous record stood at 2,728. That means the cruise crowd poured past it by nearly 700 drinks- averaging more than 426 margaritas per hour.

For perspective, the ship holds about 3,560 guests. That’s almost one margarita per passenger!
Texas Tequila Takes Center Stage at Sea
The record-breaking drinks were made with Pantalones Organic Tequila, founded by Texas-born actor and entrepreneur Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves. Because, of course!
The couple partnered with Princess Cruises in late 2024 as part of the cruise line’s premium liquor collection. Their signature Pantalones 24K Margarita is reportedly the most popular cocktail onboard, obviously, with more than one million served during the first week of January alone.
Regal Princess Returns to Galveston on National Margarita Day
The Regal Princess returned to Galveston on Sunday morning- which just happened to be National Margarita Day. Coincidence? Texas says probably not.

Between a Texas-founded tequila brand, a Galveston departure port, and a Texas favorite, this feels less like a cruise statistic and more like a full-circle Lone Star moment.
