Nestled in the historic town of Bisbee, Arizona is a smaller ghost town that looks like you've been transported in time. The ghost town of Lowell, Arizona is a place you'll want to add to your "must-visit" list!

Lowell, Arizona was once considered a booming copper mining town. It was incorporated into the town of Bisbee. Bisbee was already on my list of "must-visit" towns, it has great mining tours as well as quaint shops and restaurants, and ghosts probably!

Well, Lowell is just as iconic as it is home to the Lowell Americana Project.

What is the Lowell Americana Project?

The Lowell Americana Project is an initiative aimed at preserving and revitalizing the historic Erie Street in Lowell. Once a thriving mining town with a bustling main street, Lowell experienced a decline following the closure of its mine in 1974. This left Erie Street as a remarkable time capsule of mid-20th-century American culture, complete with vintage storefronts, classic cars, and period-specific signage.

The project, spearheaded by vintage Americana enthusiasts and supported by community volunteers, focuses on restoring and maintaining the historical authenticity of Erie Street. Efforts include refurbishing vintage gas stations, recreating period storefronts, and placing classic cars along the street to evoke the look and feel of the 1940s and 1950s.

The project has gained national and international attention, featuring in various media and serving as a backdrop for films, music videos, and television shows. This initiative not only celebrates American cultural heritage but also aims to boost local tourism and economic development through its unique appeal. Not to mention, the cars are Instagram worthy!
