Local Blues Musician Sam Barlow Releases New Album
I bleed rock, punk, and metal but, I also love me some blues and this local bluesman is one of the best ever.
Sam Barlow is putting El Paso on the blues map with his new album, "Faith In The Blues". (Buy yourself a copy here.) Sam picked up his first guitar when he was 6 years old and, I don't think, has ever put it down. In 2010, he took 1st place in El Paso's "King Of The Blues" contest and took 2nd place in the state finals of that competition. His style has been compared to people like Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, and Jonny Lang just to name a few.
"Faith In The Blues", was recently reviewed on Bman's Blues Report and the article is loaded with praise for Sam and his band. A couple of comments:
Sam Barlow wields his guitar sounding like the second coming of Johnny Winter on slide.
Of the song, My Little Lady, (listen above), Bman says:
... a real nice funky blues with a definite SRV tone (Strat through a fender super). A track that should appeal universally to most modern blues/ rock fans, Barlow shows once more that he really knows how to crank it on guitar and harmonica with Dave Hamilton soloing on bass, Movesesian soloing on drums and B3 by Aguirre.
The aforementioned Dave Hamilton is another Local Loco known far and wide. A fixture on the El Paso music scene, Dave is known mostly as the completely "funktastic" bassist for the mighty Fungi Mungle.
