Flashback to Katie Taylor’s Stunning Win Over this Texas Boxer
In the rematch that ended up being the most watched women's sporting event in history, Irish boxer Katie Taylor ended up defeating Puerto Rican boxer Amanda Serrano at the historic Jake Paul v. Mike Tyson Netflix fight in Arlington, Texas.
The rematch, which ended up having over 70 million watchers, was not without controversy. After a verdict of 95-94 by all three judges, many cried foul as Taylor had head-butted Serrano quite a few times with one resulting in a nasty gash on Serrano's eyelid!
Now, both boxers are facing a mandatory 30-day rest period imposed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration following their intense match, as per regulations that require fighters to take three days of rest for each round fought, with a minimum of a seven-day break.
While they take up their rest, and Serrano gets that eyelid fixed, many boxing fans, were reminded of the time that Taylor defeated another boxer that has a strong El Paso connection: Jennifer Han!
Taylor fought El Paso's very own Jennifer Han on September 4, 2021. The bout took place at the Emerald Headingley Stadium in Leeds, England. The stakes were high for Taylor who was defending her undisputed lightweight titles, which included the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO belts.
Taylor entered the fight undefeated, with a record of 18-0. Han, a former IBF featherweight champion, was making her return to the ring after a two-year break due to maternity leave and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bout was a 10-round contest and Taylor dominated the fight with her superior speed, technique, and ring control. Despite Han’s efforts to counter and move defensively, she struggled to keep up with Taylor's relentless pace and sharp combinations.
Taylor knocked Han down in the eighth round, which solidified her control over the fight. Taylor won by unanimous decision.
The fight underscored Taylor's ability to consistently perform at the highest level and defend her titles against credible opponents. For Han, it was a tough return to the ring, and while she didn't win, her resilience and effort earned her respect.
