Dr. Simi Brings an Exciting Meet and Greet to El Paso

Some celebrities need an introduction. Others simply need a white coat, a mustache and the ability to dance like nobody is watching.

Dr. Simi is firmly in that second category.

If you’ve spent any time on Mexican social media, gone to a concert in Mexico or just driven past a Farmacias Similares, chances are you already know that smiling face. And if seeing Dr. Simi instantly makes you happy, there’s some very important news: the man, the myth, the mustache is coming to El Paso!

How Dr. Simi Became a Mexican Pop Culture Icon

Dr. Simi started as the mascot for Farmacias Similares, the Mexican pharmacy chain known for affordable generic medications.

But somewhere along the way, Dr. Simi escaped the confines of pharmacy advertising and became a full-blown pop culture phenomenon.

There are Dr. Simi plushies. There are memes. There are videos of the mascot dancing with more confidence than most of us will ever possess.

And then there are the concerts.

Fans in Mexico became known for throwing Dr. Simi plushies onstage during performances, with some pretty major international artists finding themselves face-to-face with a tiny stuffed doctor in the middle of their sets.

The plushies themselves have an even sweeter story. Many of the famous SimiPeluches are handmade in Puebla by people with disabilities, turning one of Mexico’s most recognizable mascots into something with a lot more meaning behind that goofy little smile.

As someone who travels to Mexico pretty frequently, I’ve had the privilege of seeing Dr. Simi in person more than once. And I don't know how to properly explain to my non-Mexican friends just how iconic this man has become.

Dr. Simi shows up at weddings. He was a hit at World Cup parties. Sometimes you’ll just find him out on the street rocking out to Metallica.

At this point, seeing what Dr. Simi is doing feels a little like checking in on a celebrity.

Except this celebrity works for a pharmacy.

And honestly, seeing how far his fame has spread is pretty incredible. What started as a mascot has turned into this weirdly wholesome piece of Mexican pop culture that people genuinely love.

Now El Paso gets its moment with him.

Dr. Simi Is Coming to El Paso for a Meet and Greet

Dr. Simi will make a special appearance in El Paso on October 10, giving fans the chance to meet the legend himself.

The meet and greet will take place at CVS at 5305 Montana from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Yes, you can actually get a photo with Dr. Simi.

And considering how much El Paso and Juárez culture overlap, I have a feeling I won't be the only person who immediately understands the importance of this celebrity appearance.

Forget trying to act cool around him. If I get anywhere near Dr. Simi, I'm getting the picture!

Part of what makes Dr. Simi so lovable is that something originally created to promote a pharmacy somehow became genuinely beloved.

He's wholesome. He's hilarious. He can dance. His plush alter ego gets launched at famous musicians for a living.
