Okay, maybe a "psycho" is not the correct term. Maybe the better term would be "a Stanley Kubrick fan". A new trend has emerged on TikTok and it's probably one of the easiest ones- it's called "The Kubrick Stare".

As a fan of Stanley Kubrick movies, when I saw this trend on TikTok I thought it was great, I also thought to myself "why didn't I think of that?!" The trend started when Entertain the Elk uploaded a great description of what "The Kubrick Stare" is.

As a film lover, and a former film student who got to explore the works of Stanley Kubrick, I was excited to see this blow up on TikTok. It's one simple trick but somehow, TikTok creators are excellent at making it their own.

As more creators hopped on the trend, it was fun to see how they would make the stare unique and even more creepy.

When you see the "Kubrick Stare" in a movie, it's often an homage to Kubrick- and then you know that some crazy stuff is about to go down. You can see the stare in many of your favorite movies and not even realize that the character is about to go full blown psychotic.

The stare is probably one of my favorite film tropes. When "The Shining" came out, Roger Ebert had this to say about the "Kubrick Stare":

"In that showdown, and at several other times in the film, Kubrick indulges his favorite closeup, a shot of a man glowering up at the camera from beneath lowered brows. This was the trademark visual in 'A Clockwork Orange' and Jack Nicholson practiced it in 'The Shining'. What does it mean? That Kubrick thinks it's an interesting angle from which to shoot the face, I think."
