The freeway is closed and that is, of course, causing congestion on Mesa and other west side areas as well.

I-10 is closed, in both directions, between Sunland Park and Executive so, avoid that area today and tonight as it will not reopen until early tomorrow morning, (6/21), hopefully by 6am. If you care why it is closed, it is to allow Texas Department of Transportation workers to install some beams over I-10 in that area.

Luckily, the Border West Expressway is open so, you have that option to go around the closed area. Paisano can also serve as an alternative route. Many drivers are also cutting through UTEP via Sun Bowl drive or taking Schuster to get to Mesa or Stanton streets which also has increased congestion in those areas.

That is not the only problem on the west side today. Traffic being forced off of I-10 at Executive is diverting to N. Mesa street which is causing a great deal of congestion along that street as well. Traffic on N. Mesa was already compromised between the Don Haskins Center and Brentwood as construction has already reduced the road to one lane in that area.

  • Drivers traveling east on I-10 will have to exit at Sunland Park and take the Borderwest Expressway to Executive where you can get back on I-10.
  • Drivers who are traveling west on I-10 will have to exit at Executive, turn left to access the Borderwest Expressway and follow it to Resler. Exit at Resler to return to I-10.
