El Paso Named Twice On Best In Texas List With Lame Things
El Paso made a list of the best things to do in Texas this summer and I totally disagree. In fact, I wonder if the person behind this has actually even been here.
A list of 60 "must do" things compiled by tourtexas.com mentioned two things we have here in El Paso and, while they are ok, they are absolutely NOT the coolest things to do in the 915.
In fact, one is downright boring and the other is outshined by another thing just like it that's also right next to it.
The list divides Texas into 7 regions with El Paso being in the "Big Bend" section. Some things that should absolutely be on your bucket list include Big Bend National Park and cooling off in the world's largest spring-fed pool.
What Got El Paso On The List?
We made it thanks to 2, pretty "meh" things. They were:
Driving Rim Road - If you're into beautiful drives, Trans Mountain is wider, smoother, higher and provides amazing views you can enjoy comfortably in one of several parking areas. PRO TIP: Go around Sunrise or sunset - gorgeous.
Ditto for Scenic Drive. Higher, longer and more of an adventurous drive thanks to all the tight curves, it runs almost parallel to Rim but above it with a better view of El Paso.
Rim Road is a (fairly) straight, VERY short trip from Schuster to Rim Road with no place to pull over. Pretty lame really, unless you just need a short cut to Tom Lea park.

What Else Is There To Do In El Paso?
The other thing that made the list was riding the streetcars. Ser1iously? There's almost never anyone on them and they follow a limited route that doesn't pass anything all that interesting. Unless you're trying to get to the Cinci Street bars or U-TEP; they're U-seless.
There are soooo many other things to do in El Paso, (see a few below), the streetcars don't even deserve a mention:
- Hike the largest urban park in the USA (Avoid the deadly part)
- Take a walking ghost or history tour
- Visit the historic Plaza Theater
- Climb to Mt. Christo Rey
- Check out the museums (2 of which, you won't find anywhere else)
- Visit Fort Bliss
If you want a nice drive/ride, don't limit yourself to Trans Mntn or Scenic; do the whole mountain.
