This might very well be the first of many blogs on the Muppets and Jim Henson. Actually, I take it back, this would be the second, because the first was about how Jim Henson started out murdering a Muppet in a series of coffee commercials. You can find that blog by CLICKING HERE.

I was getting for a segment we're going to do on accents and looked up a clip from The Office where Andy explains accents.

This clip made me think. Does the Swedish Chef live on Sesame Street? In fact, do all Muppets live on Sesame Street?

If you want a good history of Sesame Street, check out this video done by WatchMojo.

Here are some highlights from the video:

  • The real life characters and Muppets were mostly kept separate at the beginning. (EG - Bert and Ernie never left their apartment)
  • Because the real life characters would engage in tedious dialogue scenes, it was decided the show needed to combine its reality and fantasy elements.
  • The show originally started out by focusing on dramatizing the inner thoughts of a child.
  • Because the show had cast black and Hispanic actors, it was banned in Mississippi. Which just so happens to be the birthplace of Muppets creator Jim Henson. But more on that coming up in a later blog.

But still, this doesn't answer my question, DO ALL MUPPETS LIVE ON SESAME STREET?

From what I can tell, THE ANSWER IS NO.

Let's just go to the the origins of this question, and what Kevin said on The Office in regards to the Swedish Chef. "He lives on Sesame Street, dumbass!"

From what I can tell, not only does the Swedish Chef not live on Sesame Street, he has never even appeared on the show. In fact, according to The Muppet Revue, a VHS released in 1985, the Swedish Chef was actually born in Denmark and moved to Sweden as a baby.

DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!!! There you go. In the process of trying to find an answer to the original question, we unlocked a truth about the Swedish Chef!
