COVID-19 Cancels Rotary Club of West El Paso’s July 4th Parade
One of El Paso's signature parades is the latest victim of COVID-19. The 4th of July Parade, organized by the Rotary Club of West El Paso was canceled for this Saturday due to COVID-19 city and county restrictions. The parade, which begins at Western Hills Methodist Church at 524 Thunderbird and ends at Coronado High School's parking lot is the main project for the Rotary Club of West El Paso. This marks the first time in 26 years that the westside parade will not take place.
As a non-profit, the Rotary Club could not absorb the costs for funding the parade, including police. The remaining costs include marketing and promoting the parade and they total more than $10,000. The city and county normally provide the financial support to the Rotary Club of West El Paso. The good news for the tens of thousands of westsiders that normally attend the parade is that plans are already in the works for it to return in 2021.
