The Best and Worst Texas Cities for Summer Flings
Cuffing season is so far away and spring flings are cute, but summer flings just hit different
There’s just something about summer that makes dating feel more fun.
Longer nights, spontaneous plans, and a little less pressure to take things too seriously. And it’s not just a vibe, it’s real.
More than 40% of Americans say they’ve had a summer fling, and one in five even met their spouse while on vacation. So those “just for the summer” moments? Sometimes they stick!

A new study from HelloMinions ranked U.S. cities for summer flings placed Austin at No. 14 overall, with a score of 7.57 out of 10, making it the top Texas city on the list. Which doesn't seem all that surprising.
Nearly 58% of the population is single, and the dating scene is active, with more than 55,000 searches for dating apps last summer alone. Add in a strong nightlife scene and plenty of date spots, and it’s easy to see why Austin stands out.
It also doesn’t hurt that dating there is relatively affordable, making those last-minute plans a lot easier to say yes to.
New Study Ranks Texas Cities for Summer Dating Potential
The study looked at the 50 most populous U.S. cities, analyzing factors like single population, dating costs, nightlife options, and overall activity.
The goal was simple: figure out where summer flings are most likely to happen, and where they’re not.

And while Austin is thriving, Arlington landed at the very bottom. It ranked as the worst city in the U.S. for a summer fling, scoring just 5.21 out of 10. The study points to fewer nightlife options, a smaller dating pool, and less overall dating activity.
At the end of the day, Texas is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to summer romance. Some cities are full of energy and opportunity, while others feel a little quieter on the dating front.
But summer flings aren’t just about rankings, they’re about timing, vibes, and being open to whatever happens. Sometimes, the best connections are the ones you didn’t plan for.
