6 Grocery Stores & Markets We Would Love To See Open In El Paso
We're listing five grocery stores and markets we would love to see open their doors in and around El Paso.
Once upon a time, El Paso had Safeways around town decades ago before it merged with Albertsons. Then if memory serves me right, there used to be a Save A Lot, a discount supermarket chain store across from Mesita School.
Today, El Paso has a few big name brand supermarkets, including Walmart, Albertsons, and a single Whole Foods in the entire city.
The next group includes Sprouts, Vista Market, Food King, and a few Lowe's / Big 8's that remain open.
Apart from these national and local markets, there are quite a few grocery stores and markets that El Pasoans would love to see open in the Sun City, including:
Kroger
Next to Walmart, Kroger has become the second largest overall retailer and largest supermarket chain in the United States. With over 200 locations in Texas, one can hopefully open in El Paso in the future.
Aldi's
Aldi's is another excellent market offering its customer base the lowest prices. In 2013 Aldi was asked if they would ever open in El Paso, and it responded by saying that it would pass along the info to its real estate team – we're still waiting for them to consider a location in El Paso.
WinCo
WinCo is another favored grocery store popular for its low prices, made possible by cutting out distributors and other middlemen. The store also doesn't accept credit cards and, like Save A Lot, has customers bag their groceries.
Trader Joe's
In 2019 Trader Joe's was ranked by Forbes as one of the best companies to work for, which says a lot. It's another coveted small-sized market known for its frozen foods, high-quality curated products, and loyal customer base.
Safeway
Safeway is one of my favorite grocery stores with better savings over its cousin, Albertson's, and maybe one day we'll see its return to the Sun City.
H-E-B
And this list wouldn't be complete without adding H-E-B, another lauded grocery store. And rumor has it that El Paso will soon get its wish as H-E-B plans to expand into El Paso in the future.
