Do you have that one friend that is quick to give you advice or criticism? Well, a new study shows that that friend does that because they care about you the most. You can call them your "mean" friend. But in reality, they are your friend that wants what is best for you.

“These findings shed light on social dynamics, helping us to understand, for instance, why we sometimes may try to make our loved ones feel bad if we perceive this emotion to be useful to achieve a goal,”psychological scientist and the study’s author Belén López-Pérez said.

Despite this friend being the meanest, they are also more likely to show empathy toward your situation and want you to succeed the most.

Now, this study may show that the "mean friend" cares the most. But let's be honest, there are those people that are just a-holes and will pass judgement on you to make themselves feel better.
