So, yeah ... "zombie" watermelons are a thing now in Texas and while you don't have to worry about them trying to eat your brain; you damn sure don't want to try and eat them.

It's no secret that the best melons in the known universe come from Pecos, Texas. Bonus points if you get 'em from the back of a pickup on the side of the road with homemade signs.

Whether it's a Pecos melon or not, if you see a watermelon doing this, remember what Texas metal legends Pantera said and "walk on home boy".

Zombies, once thought to be strictly a walking dead human thing, are everywhere in nature. Human zombies you can take out with a head shot while these others don't call for so much drama.

Now, apparently fruit is also out to get us by way of zombie watermelons. Zombie melons are starting to ferment and will make you sick. They can also ooze weird, nasty looking white foam. Needless to say, you don't want to eat these guys.

... if your picture-perfect melon starts to feel squishy instead of firm, has a suspicious odor, or starts, uh, literally foaming, it needs to be discarded. According to some experts, it could also be dangerous. - foodandwine.com

Dangerous? Yep. As fermentation occurs, gas builds up in the melon and it could ... by itself or if you try to cut it ... freakin' explode. Boom.

Just like that.
